what I've been listening to, reading and watching lately. . . - April 7, 2006
Until this week, I had MY MORNING JACKET'S album "Z" in the shower CD player, listening to it every day.
I've been going through and listening to all my PATTI SMITH and my MIKE SCOTT / of the Waterboys library. If you aren't familiar with him, buy his work -- he's saved LIVES.
I've been reading MOBY DICK as a respite from having read nothing but southern authors for the past year. The classic southern writers were all great naturalists: Capote, Hurston. . . they used the attitudes of everything from scuttling sycamore leaves to the social dynamics of turkey vulture clans in telling stories.
I finally watched WALK THE LINE and wished they had filmed it in b&w. I watched and appreciated the COUNTRY BOYS documentary, and discovered the genius of HURRA TORPEDO via my Paste Magazine DVD.
It is the birthday of Billie Holiday, today.
