Angela Faye Martin: news

what I've been listening to, reading and watching lately. . . - April 7, 2006

Until this week, I had MY MORNING JACKET'S album "Z" in the shower CD player, listening to it every day.
I've been going through and listening to all my PATTI SMITH and my MIKE SCOTT / of the Waterboys library. If you aren't familiar with him, buy his work -- he's saved LIVES.

I've been reading MOBY DICK as a respite from having read nothing but southern authors for the past year. The classic southern writers were all great naturalists: Capote, Hurston. . . they used the attitudes of everything from scuttling sycamore leaves to the social dynamics of turkey vulture clans in telling stories.

I finally watched WALK THE LINE and wished they had filmed it in b&w. I watched and appreciated the COUNTRY BOYS documentary, and discovered the genius of HURRA TORPEDO via my Paste Magazine DVD.

It is the birthday of Billie Holiday, today.

Neighbors, Part II - April 5, 2006

I should also mention that the aforementioned neighbors gave me some peach cobbler and some home-canned concord grape juice. They would like to have their jar back when I am done. ( :

Neighbors & WPVM - April 5, 2006

Enjoyed visiting with editor of the Burningtown News, Merritt Fouts yesterday evening. We went to meet some neighbors of mine and met the man who helped save the house I live in from a disastrous fire years ago.

I also saw where one of the songs from ONE DARK VINE was played on the Asheville radio program, SIREN'S MUSE, last Sunday. The station's call letters are WPVM -- so it must be: WPVM.org !
Thank you to WPVM for playing TotemGirl Music ( :
